In recent years, though, mare and more car makers have changed to rotors which are lighter in weight and slimmer to decrease pounds and save dollars. Discs used to survive through two or about three resurfacings, but don't be shocked if when it's time to swap the pads you might be advised you at the same time need completely new rotors. The current ones may well not have enough substance to be shaved away in resurfacing and even may not be as functional as those from, say, 10 or more years in the past. In addition, service outlets are unlikely to resurface rotors simply because it really adds valuable time to a project as well as the level of quality of the effort can easily vary by who does it along with how good they are. As an alternative, it is swifter, simpler and more cost-effective for repair shops to just install new rotors along with brand new pads.
